My name is Dee Dee Messier,Reno, Nevada, USA. My great grandfather was
born in Haugesund 11 August 1875. He came to the United States in 1901 and settled in the state
of Montana where he farmed for the rest of his life.
I have been doing geneaology research but know nothing
about Ole Kolsto.
By the way, I was lucky enough to see parts of Norway three
years ago. I think it is the most beautiful place I have ever seen.
I know there is only a remote chance that anyone will
be able to help me with this, but I though I would try anyway.
Thank you. Dee Dee Kolste Messier

Feb 15: Menno de Kroon, Koudum, The Netherlands
Hello I am Menno de Kroon
I am looking for Willy and Wenche Pedersen. Lately I found a postcard from them. On the card was
written that they had moved from Holmegt-2 to Austmannaveien 4c. Around 1977 I was in Haugesund with a ship called
Fosserina. We (Menno de Kroon and Floris Roell) have had much fun
with them. For anyone who read this and knows the family Pedersen as
well follows some details which can help to recognize. At that time Willy had a job at the shipyard. The had two
children. Morton and a girl named ?. The daughter was born 21-3-1978.
They will be about 58 ears old. I hope that somebody can tell me something about them.

Hallo from sunny South Florida. Robert Hustvedt-Sherwood, Sr. 3507 S Dalton

July 09: Valerie Reynolds, Texas, USA
Hallo from Central Texas, USA!!
Just touching base regarding my previous message [see below] that I had
posted 1.5 yrs. ago. Still searching for information on my great grandfather,
Karl/Carl Olsen/Olson. Possibly came from the Tysvaer, Haugesund area. Not
absolutely positive on that, but contact with a researcher/friend in Bergen
[Lillian... please contact me if you find this message! Please!] shows a family
from the Tysvaer bygedeboks that may be my grandfather's family. I have copies
of my grandfather's death certificate, and his marriage certificates, but none
of them give birthplace information except for naming Norway as country of
birth. Have also found out recently from my grandmother that she remembered her
father telling her once that one of his cousins was a secretary to King Haakon
[sp?] during the early 1900's. Of course she had no name that she could
remember. But I thought it was an interesting clue. I would greatly appreciate
any information from anyone who knows something on this family. I don't want to
intrude on any possible family members, and I don't want anything from anyone,
other than to know that I have been able to find my grandfather's family and to
maybe learn more about his early years. I can still be contacted at either of
these addresses: reynoldsv_5663@hotmail.com or txreyn5663@earthlink.net
Thank you most sincerely,
Valerie Reynolds
Previous message (Oct 2005):
Found your site several
years ago and think that it's great! Hoping that someone will see this and
"relate" to my info. Have been searching for info on my great grandfather, Karl
( aka "Carl" and "Carl K." after immigrating to the US) OLSEN or OLSON; b. Oct
1879 in Norway. Parents names were Knut/d OLSEN (OLSON) and "Susen" Sigveson
(name was found on Karl's application for a Social Security #). Had a contact in
Norway, Lillian K., [haven't heard from her in a long time - Lillian you out
there??] who had been trying to help locate Karl's ancestors through bygdeboks
that she borrowed, and thought she may have found them... not absolutely
positive, but looked promising: Knut Olsen Hundsnes b. 1833; d. 1892; married to
Synnove Sigvesdtr Hundsnes b. 1840 (daughter of Sigve Sjursen Hundsnes and
Synnove Torbjornsdtr Nedrebo). This family was in the Haugesund area, possibly
in Tysvær for a while. Karl came to the US [may have left Norway from the port
of Stavanger>Hamburg, Germany>USA] at about the age of 12, possibly in
1892 sometime. Went to live with relatives, but we don't have their
names--According to my grandmother, an only child, Karl only referred to his
relatives as "Aunt" or "Uncle" in Des Moines (Iowa). Have found no trace of him
in Des Moines, but he did live in Webster City, Iowa. Found that he was married
to a Millie Olsen/Olson [born about 1882 in Iowa - Her parents were both born in
Norway, but I don't have their names] on 13 Sept 1902 in Webster City, Iowa;
Testimony given by a J. P. Olsen/Olson..don't know if this is a relative of
Karl's or Millie's. Karl also lived in South Dakota, and later went West to
Oregon, where he remarried in 1920. He died 5 May 1956 in Warrenton, Clatsop
County, Oregon. If any of this is slightly familiar to anyone, please contact
me! Would love to find my grandfather's Norwegian family & be able to tell
my 85 year old grandmother I found her father's family/home. You can reach me at
either: reynoldsv_5663@hotmail.com
or txreyn5663@earthlink.net
June 05: Neil Fjeldheim, 11860 Carmel Drive, Lakewood, CO, USA
Hello, My grandparents
emigrated from Haugesund area in the period of 1910-1915, plus several
siblings. Some day I'm coming back as the country looks so familiar even though
I've never been... Mountains and sea, the best of both. My grandparents have
long since passed away, but I believe there are still relatives in the area and
the farm still exists.
Facts added June 11: My
grandfather, Bernt Fjeldheim, was the oldest son of Omund
Fjeldheim and Ingeleiv Larsdatter Kalveland. Bernt was born on
October 17, 1889. Immigration records indicate the home town was
Skjold. Other childern included Brynhild, Ragnhild, Lars, Kari, Endre,
Emelie, Randi, and Omund. Bernt, Ragnhild, and Brynhild arrived in New
York on February 19, 1908. Randi, Endre and Omund immigrated
later. I believe the family still owns the farm that all were born on.
My
grandmother, Elizabeth Solheim, was born January 31, 1889 in Skaare. She
arrived in New York on April 29, 1910. Her brother (I think), Lars O.
Solheim immigrated with Bernt, Ragnhild and Brynhild. I know
very little of my grandmother's family. I believe she had several sisters
that remained in Norway.
Best
wishes, Neil.Fjeldheim@cufund.org

Kjære alle kjente i hjembyen
Haugesund,
haugesunder!
Varme hilsner fra Runa Adelsten Jensen
