A convoy of old ships, 3 of them still
using steam engines, visited Haugesund from Wednesday afternoon till Thursday
morning on their way towards Bergen and the Nordsteam 2000 festival. Thursday
morning they move on - with passengers. Price from Haugesund to Bergen:
NOK 300. Just as the old days, except from the price.

But the oldest of
them all: Riskafjord II, originally built in the 1860's.
Haugesund's present to Bergen was 2
old style wodden barrels with what we call Vårsild (springtime herring).
This was the main export article of Haugesund at the time some of these
ships were built and used actively. The barrels were marked "Hermetikfabrik
Harald Haugesund Norway - the former name of the Kyvik herring company
- today called H.J. Kyvik AS. They were hoisted on board using a steam
powered crane.
