Fremdeles godt innpakket.
Lørdag blir Ola Flytt-skulturen avduket
Fra gamle dagers Haugesund er Ola Flytt en av dem vi føler vi
kjenner best til. Men - i sin tid som aktiv ferjemann, eller flyttmann,
var han en av mange. I boken om Fløttmennene som kommer ut
til høsten, er 38 av dem omtalt. Men sjømannen, sildafiskeren,
gruveslusken, rallaren, bøkkeren og robåtfører gjennom
40 år, Ola Dagsland, er den vi alle kan oppnavnet til: Ola
Flytt. I sin tid var han kjent som en lystig kar med gode replikker.
I ettertid spørs det allikevel om ikke revysangens strofer har mye
av skylden for hans "udødelighet". Nå skal imidlertid hans
udødelighet befestes. For lørdag 3. juni, forøvrig
på 74 årsdagen for hans legemlige død, blir mannen som
rodde Smedasundet,
hedret med festligheter, mottakelse i Rådhuset, statue, egen
Ola
Flytt sild og en gate på Risøy som får hans navn.
Ildsjelene Ole Hauge
og Sigmund Skjold har lagt ned et stort arbeid med planlegging
og gjennomføring av arrangementet.
Ola Flytt-parken ligger
på Ballastkaien. Her vil dere finne skulpturen, som fremdeles er
godt innpakket før avdukingen lørdag.
Ola Flytt bodde flere steder i løpet
av sitt lange liv, men mye av tiden i 2 hus, et uthus
og senere et lite hus sør
i gaten som nå blir døpt Ola
Flyttsvei.
Lørdag ønskes mange robåter
i Smedasundet
Plast eller tre - har du tilgjengelig en robåt - still opp i
Smedasundet lørdag !!

Ola Flytt was a rowing ferryman, living
in Haugesund in the late 1800, until he died, age 94, June 3 1924.
He made his living by bringing the Risøy people to and from the
mainland side of Smedasundet. Saturday he will be honored with a statue,
his own herring receipe, a park, his own road ( narrow road where he lived
for many years ) and lots of activities around the Smedasund.
