Trekantsambandet
New doorway to Haugalandet

Sunny Haugalandet meeting us through the Bømlafjord tunnel opening in Sveio
( Opens for traffic 2001)

* = Added May 26 ( Map + 2 pictures )

* Map showing the tunell and bridge project "Trekantsambandet"

Today, when arriving Haugalandet from north (Bergen / Stord / Bømlo), we  use car ( or bus ) and ferries. Next year, things will be very different. A new sub sea tunnel and new bridges are under construction, removing the "obstacle" called ferries between haugalandet and Stord / Bømlo.

OK!  When the new tunnel comes, we won't have to wait for max 1 hour for the next ferry. But I am sure many of us will miss the scenery when leaving or arriving Valevåg, crossing on top of the Bømlafjord. When doing so, we can enjoy the view of Tittelsnes, the Kvinnherad mountains, Stord, Bømlo, the sound Langenuen - and the smell of sea and nature.

But - when the tunnel comes, or even this summer, if you need some fine scenery when arriving Haugalandet - why not stop in Førde, just 10 min drive from Valevåg, take right after the church. It's a beauty (pictures below).

On the way from Haugesund to Valevåg, this is what we see of Førde
25 min north of Haugesund,  ( more pictures below
