Turistsenter i byens sentrum
Haugesund
Turistforening er flyttet til Bytunet, til
denne historiske viktige bygningen som siden
den ble bygget ca 1860 har vært både grunnskole,
politikammer og senere kontor for Kystverket.
Turistforeningens
egen viktige virksomhet, med å ta vare på
naturen, fjellhytter og stier i hele vår
haugalandske fjellheim, blir husets nye
hovedformål.
Men
fra nå av er det altså all slags turistbasert
virksomhet, enten man er natur- og fjellvandrer,
eller en som ønsker informasjon fra byen
turistinformasjon. For også den har
nå fått sin plass her på Bytunet.
Ordfører
Petter Steen åpnet huset etter at deler
av det, inkl den nye turistinformasjonen,
har gjennomgått en omfattende ombygging.
Fremdeles gjenstår mye godt arbeid, størstedelen dugnadsbasert,
før Turistforeningen har fått sitt nye senter
ferdig.

June
13 was a good day for the local branch of
The Norwegian Mountain Touring Association,
an organisation taking care of our mountain
paths and huts, and the interests of
their nature loving members. But not
only for them. Their nature based premises
are available for all of us wanting
to go on hikes in the beautiful and varied
nature of Norway.
But
to return to June 13: That was the day when
they opened their new house on the
most central place in Haugesund, Bytunet.
This
house, built app. 1860 to be a primary school building,
constructed with timber from the walls
of the old Skaare church, has later on been
used as the local police headquarters, and
after that for the local branch of the coast
directorate adminitration.
From
now on, however, it is the place for all
of us wanting information about our region,
as hikers or ordinary tourists, as even
the Haugesund Tourist information centre
is in this building from now on.
