I slutten av desember 1999 gikk fraktebåten
"Hedlo" grundig på Svenskeskjæret like sør for Urter.
Været var forrykende, og mannskapet ble reddet med helikopter. Noen
hevder faktisk at dette var den verste uværsperioden vi har hatt
de siste 20 årene. Båten regnet man med forsvant i havdypet
med mus og last. Men dengang ei. Båten har motstått alle naturens
forsøk på å senke den. I går og i dag viste den
til fulle at den hadde til hensikt å bli på skjæret.
Helt til overmakten ble for stor.
Tirsdag prøvde man å dra av
"Hedlo" med 4 slepebåter, men den rikket seg ikke. I dag, onsdag,
koblet de til enda et par, først kjempestore "Viking Fighter". Når
ikke engang det hjalp, kom "Audax", Østensjøbåt nr.
2 på denne jobben, inn og hjalp mens det enda var flo sjø.
Totalt trakk de med 200 tonns kraft, og da måtte Hedlo gi etter.
Den gled stille og "sørgmodig" av skjæret og overlot til fuglene
som hadde tatt bolig i den å finne seg ny plass for redene sine.
Men for Eidegruppen, som utførte
jobben" var dette enda en blomst i knapphullet. De ble virkelig "berømt"
når de hevet "Sleipner" for et par år siden. Så berget
de "Green Ålesund" vraket. Nå har de enda et vrak å samle
på, for båten skal slepes til Høylandsbygd, hvor den
vel blir fortøyet "side by side" med Sleipnervraket. I løpet
av neste år kan vi kanskje få kjøpt en pakke "Hedlo"
i jernvarehandelen når vi kjøper spiker, for det er den endeligt
båten går mot.

In the end of december 1999 the freight
vessel "Hedlo" ran ashore just south of Urter, some small islands in the
ocean just west of Haugesund. The weather was furious, and the crew members
were saved by helicopter. In fact, this period of bad weather is said to
be the worse we have had for 20 years. The ship was expected to sink with
both the ship mouse and steel cargo. But it did'nt. "hedlo has percisted
all the efforts made by the nature to sink it. Yesterday and today it demonstrated
its intention of remaining on the rock. But at last, the powers was to
hard to cope with.
Yesterday the rescue team tried to pull
it off with the help of 4 towing vessels. It did not move a bit. Today
they brought in two more, first a huge offshore towing and supply ship,
"Viking Fighter". When even that gave too little extra pull power, another
boat arrived while they still had high tide. Will a total pull power of
200 tonns, it became too much for little Hedlo. Suddenly it started moving,
and it slipped quietly off the rocks, forcing the birds living on it to
find new places to build their nests.
With this job the Eide group did still
another rescue operation with a good result. A couple of years ago, they
"salvaged" the Sleipner wreckage. A year ago, they raised the "Green Ålesund".
Now they have still another boat to moore side by side with the others
on their site in Høylandsbygd, Halsnøy. Next year we may
be able to buy a packet of "Hedlo" when we visit a hardware shop to by
nails.
